Weds July 25th 2007 - Friendly: Penwith XI 8-3 Cuxhaven XI

On Wednesday, a Penwith XI took on a side representing Cuxhaven, in the annual town-twinning game, with the hosts winning 8-3. Penwith where ahead just seconds in, when Rose Knuckey hit the roof of the net, and the same player took advantage of a defensive slip to double the lead on 13 minutes. Karley Symons denied Knuckey with a smart low save and Clare Todd deflected an effort from Emily Field over the Cuxhaven bar. Katie Barker pulled a goal back for Cuxhaven ut Sammi Richards soon made it 3-1. Becky Hall hit the woodwork for Penwith, and Richards struck the crossbar from distance, with a fourth goal then forced home on 41 minutes. A Hall drive just cleared the goal and Knuckey smashed the ball onto the bar at the end of the first half.

Penwith also scored seconds after the restart, Knuckey tapping in Hall's cross to complete her hat-trick. Candice Britten hit the bar for Cuxhaven, as did Natasha Mills but she was able to follow up to make it 5-2. Just a minute later, Amber Grose's perfect cross was slid home by Hall, Grose then making it 7-2 after 66 minutes, with a lofted shot on the turn beating the keeper. Barker found the net from distance and had another shot turned around the post for a cormer. Another good cross from Grose saw Knuckey complete the scoring on 78 minutes. But Britten went close and the final chance fell to Grose but Symons pulled off a good stop.
