Sunday December 16th 2007: South West League Premier Division - University of Bristol 0-3 Penzance
Penzance Ladies FC have enjoyed a very successful first-half of the season and end 2007 with all three sides top of their respective divisions. The first team lead the South West League Premier Division by three points and with a 100% record, following a 3-0 win away to University of Bristol, where Rose Knuckey netted a first-half hat-trick.
Sarah Mansfield set up Knuckey for the first goal, with a 1-on-1 against the keeper. Julie Lawrence was involved in the second goal, finding Katie Barker on the right, who crossed for Knuckey to volley home.
Some good one and two touch football brought about the final goal, a cross from the bye-line finished first time by Knuckey.
Penzance kept the ball well for much of the second-half and almost extended their lead as Mansfield hit the post, with Lauren Hosking and Barker also going close. Amber Grose had a fine game in the centre of midfield, returning after 8 weeks out injured. The back four put in a solid performance, with the hosts only real chance coming late on, Lindsey Williams making the save and Dawn Bateman then clearing the follow up shot off the line.
The Magpies resume their title challenge on January 6th, when they host the University of Exeter, with a 2pm kick-off at Penlee Park.
