Sunday February 3rd 2008: South West League Premier Division - University of Exeter 0-6 Penzance
Penzance began their six-week South West League title run in with a visit to Exeter University, where despite difficulties they won 6-0. The game was shortened to 70 minutes after a late kick-off delayed by a change of pitch and a wait for a prior fixture to finish. Although playing into the wind, the Magpies domianted the first-half and led 1-0 at the break, with Clare Boyd having started the move deep in her own half. Julie Lawrence took the ball forward and Amber Grose dribbled her way to the touchline and crossed for Dani Small to place into an empty net.
Small doubled the lead after the break and completed her hat-trick after Grose made it 3-0. Grose headed home number five, with Becky Hall wrapping it up at 6-0. Boyd had a cracking shot saved by the excellent Carly Barber, with Grose also denied. Penzance played some good one-touch football from the back in awful conditions. Grose and Rose Knuckey combined well up front, as if they had played together for years.
The Magpies have a crucial clash at Cullompton this Sunday and follow on with Gloucester City home on Feb 17th, Cheltenham Town home & away (Feb 24/March 2), before a possible promotion showdown at home to Cullompton on March 9th.
