Sunday September 30th 2007: FA Women's Cup 2nd Qualifying Round - Penzance 6-0 Larkhall Athletic
Penzance progressed again in the FA Women's cup, with a 6-0 win over Larkhall Athletic. The Magpies now have a tough trip to Cullompton Rangers in the 3rd Qualifying Round this Sunday.
They got off to the best of starts, as Katie Barker broke into the box to fire home inside 30 seconds. Becky Hall fired at the keeper after a good run by full-back, Dani Small, Rose Knuckey got in a smart backward header after Amber Grose won possession, whilst Barker had a drive well blocked by the keeper.
At the other end Clare Boyd made a good headed clearance from a corner, a brilliant Emma Hurworth tackle halted a forward's surge towards the box, whilst Larkhall missed a clear chance when a shot was pulled wide after a free-kick.
After the break, Hall couldn't quite get enough on Barker's great cross and had a shot blocked following a clever lob by Grose. The lead was doubled on 53 minutes when Barker's cross was only cleared as far as Boyd, who struck a tremendoues half-volley into the roof of the net.
It was 3-0 three minutes later, when Knuckey's effort was blocked from Grose's lay-off but Hall was able to finish. Whilst from an excellent Barker cross Grose saw her header saved, Penzance escaped as the ball went across the goalmouth. Boyd had an effort deflected for a corner and Barker's charge through the middle forced a good parry from the keeper. The remaining goals came in the last eight minutes, Barker sweeping the first in following a great run which Knuckey played a part in. Linda Webb made it 5-0 and seconds later, Boyd fired home her second, with a first time shot from another Barker ball in.
