Sunday January 20th 2008: Cornwall Cup Quarter-Final - Marazion 1-9 Penzance

Penzance won the Cornwall Cup quarter-final tie at Marazion 9-1, after giving away a first minute goal through a defensive error, Sarah Winn taking advantage to put the hosts ahead.
It took 20 minutes for the Magpies to equalise, a 35-yard Dani Small effort against the wind just doing enough to escape the grasp of Jane Wills. Carly Jacka went close from distance for Marazion but on 28 minutes Katie Barker received a through ball from Claire Boyd and rounded the keeper to put Penzance ahead. Just a minute later, Amber Grose won a penalty but Boyd's spot-kick clipped the outside of the post. Barker was off target with Wills out of her goal but on 38 minutes, Grose controlled the ball well and finished comfortably for 3-1. Boyd went close twice more before the break, one effort on the roof of the goal, the other kept out by Wills' smart diving save.
Katie Barker clipped the bar from a corner and a good Julie Lawrence effort from distance dropped just over the top. At the other end, keeper Lyndsey Williams raced out to tackle Jo Barker, with Marazion claims of a foul waved away. Becky Lawrence made a good challenge, again on Jo Barker, conceding a corner. Rose Knuckey was fouled near the edge of the box but was booked in the process, although she did score via the resultant free-kick in the 68th minute. Seconds later, Katie Barker struck a spectacular goal from wide on the right, which swung and dipped over the keeper for 5-1. Wills did make a smart save in rushing out to block Becky Hall, Williams then turning a shot round her post before Becky Lawrence cleared the danger from the corner.
Penzance added four goals in the last ten minutes, the first begun by a solid Amy Hemingway tackle and ended when Grose took the ball past the keeper to slot home. Becky Knight went close for the hosts and Grose drove wide from a Small pass. Becky Hall strolled through the middle and fire home number seven, Kat Dawe then just taking a pace too far and allowing Carol Allen to deny her a goal. Julie Lawrence was booked after a challenge on Linda Vandenbergh but set up Emily Hardaker for a good finish. Hardaker then found Grose, who beat Wills to complete her hat-trick.
