Sunday November 25th 2007: South West League Premier Division - Penzance 11-1 Poole Town

Penzance went top of the South West League Premier with an 11-1 win over Poole Town, mirroring the result from the away match with the Dorset side.
Julie Lawrence had an early volley saved but after 5 minutes, Katie Barker was fouled on the edge of the box and Claire Boyd placed the free-kick into the roof of the net. Another quality finish came when Boyd put Becky Hall clear on the right in the 20th minute and the forward rifled a shot into the top far corner. However, Poole replied five minutes later, with an amazing overhead volley from a corner. A great through ball from Amy Hemingway saw Lawrence force a corner but on 32 minutes it was Boyd again who set up a goal, Barker steaming goalwards for a blistering finish. Boyd hacked a clear chance of her own over the top and on half-time, Poole's ten were reduced to nine. A defender went down under a strong but innocuous challenge from Hall, with the outcome being a stretcher and an ambulance on the pitch.
The Poole keeper continued to make some smart saves, dealing with a drive from Candice Britten, before Boyd's header from a corner was cleared off the line. But on 54 minutes, a Julie Lawrence 25-yarder was too hot for the keeper to handle, making it 4-1. After Rose Knuckey had a shot blocked and a Hall effort forced a corner, Barker's 59th minute flag-kick saw Britten net a terrific header from just outside the 18-yard box. Knuckey drove just over the bar before Boyd headeh home powerfully from another Barker corner on 65 minutes. Just three minutes later and Knuckey crashed a shot on the turn into the roof of the net from a pass by Hemingway. Hall made it 8-1 on 72 minutes, Britten missed a chance when clean through but injury saw Poole down to eight players for the last ten minutes.
Sarah Mansfield slotted home a cross from Britten and the same combination brought a first-time finish for Mansfield on 83 minutes. Dawn Bateman converted an 87th minute penalty when Lawrence was felled and Mansfield was denied a hat-trick by an excellent tip-over from the substitute keeper.
This Sunday, the Magpies have a tricky league fixture away to Cheltenham Town.
